Winter Skin Rescue

Another snow fall of the season can be exciting, but the bitter cold air takes no mercy on our sensitive skin. Between shoveling, cleaning off the car, walking the dog, repeat, our face feels the drying effects of the chilly air long after coming back inside. Save yourself from the damage of these icy temperatures down the line by protecting your winter skin with a moisturizing regimen. We are lucky to have our on call esthetician and make up artist friend Beth to fill us in on her must haves now that winter is officially here.

“Winter is my favorite time for spa night at home. Grab a glass of wine, turn up the heat, and pamper yourself while the wind whips outside.”

Bubble Bath

Relaxing with your favorite bath bomb is the perfect way to warm up after surviving the cold. After your bath while skin is still damp be sure to replenish and revitalize with a moisturizer or skin oil. Applying oil while skin is damp increases the moisture barrier … and makes it feel like silk! Great skin care Kate Somerville ExfoliKateis the basis for beautiful makeup and most importantly- feeling good.

It’s important to exfoliate year round. Dead skin cells are no ones friend! I opt for Kate Somerville’s ‘Exfolikate‘ it’s a stationary exfoliant meaning you don’t have to do much scrubbing – thanks to those pineapple, papaya and pumpkin enzymes that naturally exfoliate dead skin cells. Rub for 30 seconds and leave on for up to 2 min depending on skin sensitivity. Voila! You’ll immediately notice smoother, softer skin with a fantastic glow.

Continue your spa night with a product like Juice Beauty’s Stem Cellular Instant Eye Lift Algae Mask. With ingredients like aloe and algae, your eyes will thank you in the morning. Skyn Iceland’s Plumping Lip Gel Masks will restore moisture levels, loss of fullness and lines and wrinkles around the mouth.  Whose lips aren’t crying for more care during this time of year? I know mine are! Keep moisture in by applying your favorite lip balm, like Rosebud Salve, which has one million uses in itself. Rub on cuticles, lips, anywhere that needs some extra TLC.

Skin Care Products

After exfoliating, it’s important to tone in order to balance this skins pH. A hydrating gentle toner is Mario Badescu’s facial spray with aloe, herbs and rose water. You can also refresh your skin throughout the day with this product, helping makeup look freshly touched up. Dermalogica’s Hydrating Booster Serum will restore supple and fullness to the skin. By giving your skin max hydration now, you’re preparing for radiant skin this summer! Of course, we can’t forget winter’s most needed product… moisturizer! Eminence is an organic skin care line that will make you feel like your in a spa every time you use it. Apricot Calendula nourishing cream is super healing, and is great for dehydrated and sensitive skin.

“And yes, yes you still need SPF during these freezing months. Don’t forget during the day!”
