Fancy Clothes For The Plus Size Girl

I read somewhere, can’t remember where, that the average woman in the US is a size 14. If this is true then why oh why is it so hard for us plus size gals to find fashion forward clothing. Throw an invitation to a wedding or a holiday party into the mix and panic ensues.

There aren’t many stores that we can walk into and purchase an event ready outfit. With Target quietly discontinuing their plus size section (you heard it here first) Torrid, Macy’s (if you’re lucky) and in my neck of the woods, Lord and Taylor are the only options for quick plus size outfits. These are all great options and I’ve found some really pretty pieces at each store. But sometimes..I’d like something with a bit more spunk.

A few years ago I came across UK retailer, ASOS, and fell in love. Their Curve line is dedicated to the plus size girl who loves pretty clothes and a clean tailored fit. I order the majority of my fancy clothes from ASOS and since invitations typically go out 6-8 weeks before the event it’s a great resource for fancy outfits for the wedding and holiday season. As with most plus size retailers the sizing can be inconsistent. My advice is to order well in advance of your event just in case you need to order a different size or bring the item to your tailor. Prices range from $45-$200 and standard shipping is always free as are all returns.
